Frequently Asked Dermal Filler Questions

What are Dermal Fillers? Dermal Fillers are made from Hyaluronic Acid, which is a natural substance found in our bodies, including our skin. The hyaluronic acid has gone through a process to bind like a gel. This can provide contour, volume or plump fine lines and wrinkles. As Haluronic Acid is a natural substance our bodies accept it. Hylaluronic acid based filler scan be dissolved.

How long does it take to recover after Dermal Filler treatment? Bruising and swelling are common side effects following dermal filler treatments. Please bear this in mind when booking appointments as it is important to consider events and social occasions. Although most people find that they can return straight back to work after treatment, it may be something that you do not feel comfortable with.

What Areas Can Be Treated With Dermal Filler? Fillers can be used to treat different areas of the face. Some of the most common areas for filler include: Temples, Cheeks, Chin and Jawline, Lips and Tear trough (under the eyes)

Who Can't Have Dermal Fillers? Sally will not carry out any cosmetic injectable procedure on any one pregnant or breastfeeding. Sally will not carry out Dermal Filler treatment if you have a history of severe allergic reactions to wasp or bee stings. If you suffer with any auto-immune disease Sally will go through a medical consultation and may require advice from your specialist. Sally has the right to refuse treatment if she does not believe that this will benefit or enhance features.

What Are the Risks of Having Dermal Fillers? Bruising and swelling are common side effects following dermal filler injections. Lumps and bumps are possible following injections. If the filler is injected superficially you will likely to feel the filler under the surface of the skin. Over the next coming weeks the filler will integrate and feel smooth. If any lumps persist that it is important to contact the practitioner. Lumps and bumps are very common immediately post lip filler treatment. This is due the the swelling and healing process. When the swelling settles, the lips will also feel softer and return to a normal feeling. If any lumps persist, it is important to contact your practitioner who will advise further. Delayed on set nodules and swelling are rare and are more thought to be associated with people who suffer from autoimmune diseases. If you are concerns about any delayed onset of lumps or swelling it is important to contact your practitioner for full assessment. If treatment is required such as dissolving filler, this will be of an additional charge. There are arteries located under the surface of the skin and in the face. If filler causes an obstruction or spasm it may prevent the blood from flowing. It is essential for blood to flow to keep the tissues perfused, in this instance it is essential to have the filler dissolved. A referral to an ultra sound complications clinic may be advised, however Sally is trained in dissolving filler.

How Soon Will I See the Results? Most dermal filler results are immediate, but over the next few weeks results will continue to improve. Allow 2 -3 weeks for lips to heal following lip filler treatment. Lips will be swollen and require time to settle to allow for end result. Tear troughs results improve over 6-8 weeks follwoing treatment.

How Long Does Dermal Filler Last? No one knows how long Dermal Filler lasts. The results vary from person to person and from area to area. There are many influencing and external factors. Generally, the firmer the filler the longer the results last.

How Long Does Dermal Filler Treatments Take? Getting filler treatment takes anything from half an hour to a couple of hours, depending on what area and how many areas. If treating several areas, it is possible to have treatments over several appointments.

What Should You Not Do After Dermal Filler Treatment? Staying out of the sun is important. You should also avoid the following: Applying make up until the following day. You should avoid alcohol, exercise and heat for a few days to prevent as much swelling and bruising as possible. Following Tear Trough treatment it is essential to not rub under the eyes and to avoid touching this area for 2 weeks. If you have any questions please contact us.
